Some people wish to become permanent residents after having worked in Canada. However, obtaining a Canadian work permit or other kinds of permits may be difficult for those who have faced criminal charges and convictions due to Canada\u2019s heightened security and restrictions in accordance to immigration laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Government of Canada on\novercoming criminal convictions, criminal offences that may prohibit a\npotential applicant from getting a work permit include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Driving under the influence of\ndrugs or alcohol<\/li><li>Dangerous driving and traffic\nviolations<\/li><li>Theft<\/li><li>Assault<\/li><li>Manslaughter<\/li><li>Possession of or trafficking in\ndrugs or controlled substances<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, can I still be issued a Canadian permit despite of these offences on my criminal record?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is yes. However, the process of obtaining a Canadian work or study permit still depends on the crime, and on the date in which the offence has occurred in relation to the date of filing your work permit application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may prove to an immigration officer\nthat you: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>meet the legal terms of being\n\u2018deemed to be rehabilitated\u2019<\/li><li>\u2018applied for rehabilitation\u2019\nand were approved<\/li><li>were granted a record\nsuspension<\/li><li>have a temporary resident\npermit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada is a welcoming country and\nrecognizes the effort of good people who are looking for a second chance in\ntheir lives. Some people have been criminally charged or convicted at a young\nage or even if they were adults, a certain period of time has gone by and\napplicants would like to establish in Canada.
