Canadian immigration has always been linked to economics and political moves. It is well known that the global pandemic related to COVID-19 has impacted the Canadian labour market big time and that our leaders have made important decision to keep us all safe. Lots of local workers have been laid off and will have access to economic emergency programs in order to aid them through these tough times, but despite this current situation, immigrants are very important for the system to keep working. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Statistics Canada, higher\nemployment rates for immigrants are evident in Western Canada. Manitoba had the\nhighest employment rate for immigrants with 83.1 per cent in 2017 compared with\n83.9 per cent for Canadian-born. Alberta\u2019s rate of employment started to trend\ndownwards in 2014 for both immigrants and Canadian-born due to falling oil\nprices which is the main driver of the province\u2019s economy. However, the\nemployment rate for immigrants in Alberta was the third highest in the country\nat 79.8 per cent and British Columbia falls on the second highest at 80.1 per\ncent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The increase of employment rate in Canada\nwas also driven by the country\u2019s strong stand on job-creation, which further\nurges and encourages companies to hire more people. Correspondingly, the\nperformance of newcomers was better than the last recession, which was over a\ndecade ago with a growing labour-force participation and decreasing unemployment\nrates for newcomers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is also a high percentage of working\nimmigrants who are more highly educated and has better earning prospects.\nAccording to Statistics Canada, 83.4 per cent of the immigrant labour force in\nCanada has attained university degrees and 83.5 with post-secondary certificate\nor diplomas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Higher employment rates and labour\nparticipation of immigrants\u2019 signals and drives a demand for goods and services\nthat further contributes to Canada\u2019s economic growth. Therefore, Canada is\nstriving to maintain a positive attitude towards immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
